Honchos follow up from the tech house grooves of Paolo Mojo’s recent 12” with a brand new offering from Magik Trax AKA Dick ‘Magik’ Johnson.

Dick has previously recorded for Honchos Music with his collaborations with Ian Pooley. The producers have come up trumps with two singles, ‘Piha’ (a big disco house track from a couple of years ago, big with Radio 1 and rejuvenated with DJ Sneak and Jamie Anderson mixes) and ‘Heke’ from last year. Dick is also currently busy putting the finishing touched together for his debut album for NRK, so expect to be hearing quite a lot of the Magik one over the next few months…..
‘Get Nasty’ is a thumpingly excellent chunk of club friendly house music. 909 drums and almost rave-like stabs (don’t let that put you off!) set the tone whilst the bass line is simply infectious. A real heads down floor filler, ‘Get Nasty’ manages to retain the funk throughout and offer a retro slice of house grooves. On the flip, ‘Here It Is’ forges a deeper path which will appeal to those who prefer their beats a bit more subtle. A deep and hypnotic acid bassline cuts through the shuffling conga beats and a cute little funk riff and a rather uplifting piece of deep tech-house is the outcome.
