Audio Soul Project

A prolific producer, Mazi's has released 80 records in just 5 years time, creating music under the additional monikers of Studio Nova, and Audio Soul Project. His remix credits include work with artists such as Disco Legend Rochelle Fleming (First Choice), Enrique Iglesias, Ron Carroll, Eddie Amador, and Richard "Humpty" Vission. Mazi remixed "Lucky Star" for the French super group "Superfunk" which went on to sell 1.5 million copies. Originally released on Virgin/France, "Lucky Star" has been picked up by Madonna's label Maverick for release in the U.S.

Most recently, Chicago based Mazi has remixed the classic Marshall Jefferson "Mushrooms", Soul Vision on Defected offshoot Fluential, and has signed to NRK for his debut Audio Soul Project album and remixes of Nick Holder’s "Freedom In 63".

In addition to remix work, he has produced music for major motion pictures, most recently for the movie "Shadow Hours" featuring Rebecca Gayheart and Balthazar Getty. A dj for 10 years, Mazi continues to tour the U.S. while holding down residencies at Chicago clubs. His mix compilation, Audio Soul/ Afterhours offers a unique perspective to turntablism as live instrumentation is played over his mixing. Also an A&R Executive, Mazi presides over his record labels, Gourmet and Simple Soul.

H-FOUNDATION

Alanis. Collectively, this crop of producers have formed the 6400 crew for releases on Yoshitoshi, Electrik Soul, Shaboom & Siesta.

Follow up EPs on Chicago's Moody Recordings and Toronto's Camouflage imprints have solidified the duo's place at the top of the heap of new U.S producers. Most recently their sound has had a massive impact on U.K audiences, and labels such as Low Pressings (Peace Division), Soma, Shaboom and NRK have enlisted the production talents of Hipp-E & Halo for productions and remixes. NRK's nite:life 02, a continuous DJ mix from Halo & Hipp-e, was an excellent introduction to those still new to the tech-house phenomenon, and to those in the know it was a fantastic collection of some of the most ground breaking and powerful house music sounds around, as mixed by two of the scene's most charismatic and dedicated followers. The mix CD has since been cited as a major influence in the progressive/ tribal/ tech-house movement.

IAN POOLEY

Hailing from Mainz, near Frankfurt, Germany, Ian Pooley, alongside other nu school German artists such as Mousse T and partner in crime, DJ Tonka, has been swapping the traditional hard trance/ techno sounds typical of some German clubs for the funky and sublime sounds imported from America, to great effect.

Pooley has been bridging the gap between techno and house, creating superb tracks such as the massive 'Celtic Cross' and 'Chord Memory' on the Force Inc. label, as well as recording more housier and disco orientated workouts for labels such as John Acquaviva's Definitive Records, Effective Records and NRK. Ian has also remixed for Daft Punk, The Cardigans, The Beloved, Green Velvet and many more.

By refusing to pigeonhole his sound, Pooley records have graced the record boxes of DJs as diverse as Dave Clarke, Justin Robertson, Dave Angel, Judge Jules and Terry Farley. Most recently, Ian has recorded two albums for the V2 Music Group; "Meridian" was a classic Pooley album, choc full of tech-house delights and including the massive "What's Your Number" as remixed by Jazzanova. Ian released his second LP for V2 last year; 'Since Then' saw Ian move in a more housier, latin direction and spawned the current hit single '900 Degrees'. Ian Pooley will help NRK celebrate their 50th release with his 3rd single for the label, as well as a nite:life mix CD in May 2001.

JAMIE ANDERSON

Pioneering his own strand of tech-house, Jamie Anderson has pushed his sound further via his diverse DJ sets and through work on his own label Artform. After a succession of well-received releases, such as the recent ‘Abstract Latinism’ series, Jamie Anderson is now upon the fifteenth release for Artform. Having collaborated with artists like Danny McMillan for tracks on 10 Kilo and TCR Label and a-J-Scent for projects on NRK and Artform - Jamie is continuing the sublime, jazz tinged techno-house flavour that has become synonymous with his label’s sound and is currently in production for his debut album which has been signed up by NRK, in addition to a live mix CD that showcases his unique style behind the turntables.

Jamie began his musical journey into studio production with jazz musician Dave Buxton. Inspired by hip hop, acid house and the booming club scene that had emerged around him, Jamie quickly began to perform and promote club nights in and around his home town of Bristol. He has now grown to the level where he DJ’s all over the UK, Europe and beyond having recently toured America (Rotation tour) and Asia.

Alongside solo projects on NRK, Artform, Hope, Countdown 2000, Immigrant and Rotation, Jamie has recently remixed L.S.G, Mood II Swing, Nick Holder, Access 58, Abacus, Twisted Pair, Silvio Ecomo and The Hacker as well as DJing at Dance Valley (Amsterdam/Ibiza), Stereo (Sao Paulo), The End (London) and Movement (Kuala Lumpur) to name a few.

JOESKI & ONIONZ

Joeski & Onionz both crafted their DJ skills on the network of New York’s underground clubs such as Limelight, Tunnel, Wunder Bar and The Roxy. Onionz, a talented drummer & percussionist, could lay claim to being one of the youngest DJs out of NY, starting off at the tender age of 16, whilst Joeski started out spinning freestyle hip hop & disco in Queens, N.Y. The duo crossed paths in the mid 80’s and by the dawn of house music, could be heard spinning alongside other NY future stars such as Keoki and Angel Moraes.

As producers, the guys have released an extensive back catalogue of music, both solo and as part of the 6400 Crew; a collective of like minded producers & DJs such as Hipp-e & Halo from H-Foundation, Master D & Tony Hewitt from Tango Recordings. As a DJ partnership, Joeski goes for the tough edges and dubbed out tribalism of the house spectrum whilst Onionz favours the more vocal and latino vibes that reflect the eclecticism of New York’s current house scene.

Outside of their busy DJ schedules, Joeski finds time to run the Maya label and produce with fellow artists like DJ Chus (for the classic ‘El Amor’) and Dano (as Twisted Pair) whilst Onionz runs Electrik Soul and also works with artists such as Mark Bell (Shaboom) and Dubtribe. Both producers also record for Siesta and Tango. A great example of communities in the house scene, Joeski & Onionz represent the new mood and era of a music that has defied the critics and still stands strong today on the world’s airwaves and dancefloors.

MIGUEL MIGS

Originally from Santa Cruz, now residing in San Francisco, Miguel Migs' music evokes feelings as warm as the Californian sunshine. His first foray into the world of music was as guitarist in a world beat dub band, the legacy of this is clear in his music, a passion for reggae and dub is evident through his slew of releases on OM, Large, Naked Music, Yoshitoshi and of course, NRK.

Migs' first house cut was a remix of Naked Music NYC's 'If I Fall' back in 1997. The remix, now a cherished rarity, was a stunning debut for the San Fran imprint, combining sultry, sexy vocals with trademark warm bubbly bass. The same year he set up his own eclectic Transport label and began to travel across the globe, vinyl in tow, as the new deep house don.

A great fan of aliases and monikers, Miguel's favorite seems to be the 'Petalpusher,' the name cropping up on his works on Naked Music and famously the 'Petalpushing' track on his 1999 EP, 'Inner Excursions' on NRK. Migs continues to produce & remix stunning pieces of music across many labels, whilst DJing across the four corners of the globe. His workload has paid off; Miguel was nominated for the Muzik Magazine Best New Producer award this year, and it looks as though further accolades will follow.

NICK HOLDER

Nick Holder, owner of Toronto's acclaimed DNH Records (now up to over 60 releases!), has been producing underground house music for the last ten years. As well as releases on his own DNH label, Holder has also produced respected EPs on John Acquaviva's Definitive label, Stickman Records, Hi Bias, Strobe Records and Germany's K7 label (two albums; "One Night In The Disco" and "Back On Track"). Nick's recording work spans the house sounds through to disco loops and , minimal Chicago style, and his work has found their way into the record boxes of such DJ luminaries as Deep Dish, Andrew Weatherall, Nick Warren, Junior Vasquez and DJ Sneak.

Holder's single, 'Da Sambafrique' propelled him to cult producer status, a latin track played by DJs all over the world. This record was to set the precedent for Holder's critically acclaimed album on NRK, 'From Within' and spawned two underground classics; "Trying To Find Myself" and "I Once Believed In U".

Last year saw the release of Nick's second album for NRK. Titled 'Underground Alternatives', the album featured the new singles 'America Eats Its Young' and the huge Summer club hit, 'Summer Daze'. PLASTIC AVENGERS

Plastic Avengers is George T. Hailing from Edinburgh, George is fast becoming a household name in the capital of Scotland for his production work and his exemplary DJ skills at Edinburgh's Emporium of House, 'Tribal Function'.

Spurred on by the Chicago sounds of DJ Sneak, Derrick Carter and Gene Farris, George has become an ambassador for the American sound. His club night Tribal Function has been running for ten years and production-wise, George records as Plastic Avengers for NRK. Three EPs have now been released under this guise, namely "Sideburns EP", "Oddsox EP", "All I Want" and "The Strutt" as well as a CD compilation of the EPs greatest moments, "42 Minutes Of Plastic". Plastic Avenger’s debut album "Space Grafitti", is out now. The album is a collection of 13 brand new tracks that span filtered disco, electro, tech-house and deep latin grooves. The album is already a favourite with press and radio across Europe, and its release will see the Plastic Avengers name and profile raise substantially.

George has also honed a production career in North America and Canada by recording for Stickman Records and Aquarius records. He has also remixed for Sham's Jinx label. George also records as Shutterbug for Quality Control and has remixed for Sneak's Defiant label, Glasgow Underground and Monkey Fruit. He counts Ian Pooley and DJ Sneak as big fans of his work, and with mates like that, George T is set for greater things.

PEACE DIVISION

Brought up on a diet of hip hop, electro and 80’s synth pop, Clive Henry and Justin Drake have helped shape the house music movement without all the hype and fuss that surrounds some of their peers and contemporaries. A debut foray into the studio resulted in a release on the UK Slip ‘n’ Slide label, and the pair have not looked back since.

Building a rapport with influential labels such as Junior (check their Dark Daze project on Junior offshoot label, Fuju), Hooj and Eukatech, their impressive production output resulted in their widely respected debut album, "Junkyard Funk". Praised by the crème de la crème of DJ talent such as Danny Tenaglia, Jon Digweed & Carl Cox, the album went on to achieve widespread acclaim and notch up phenomenal sales.

Their trademark tribal drums, dark edges and dubbed out grooves have also lent the midas touch to a multitude of artists & labels, including Rui Da Silva’s massive "Touch Me", Moby’s "Natural Blues" and X-Press 2’s "Lazy". On the DJ circuit, veteran Clive and Justin can be found spinning at some of the world’s finest nightclubs (including Fabric, Elements, Space, DC10, Twilo and many more).

SIRUS

Macclesfield, UK is not the first place you would think of when presented with an album's worth of sublime deep house. Crap football team, yes, but house music?! Marcus Turcotte AKA Sirus was indeed born in Macclesfield, but swiftly moved ship with his family to Toronto in Canada where he studied piano and guitar.

Although classically trained, Sirus became interested in the technological revolution of sampling and programming and, together with fellow Ontarion Hayden Andre Brown, formed Subculture and recorded the classic early house tracks "The Voyage", "Come Back" and "Dreams" for the legendary Strobe label.

By the mid-nineties, Subculture had gone their different ways, and Sirus met another budding Canadian producer in Nick Holder of DNH Records. He released several EPs on DNH including "Sax Appeal" and "Echoes & Vibes.

After a brief stint as a vocalist in a trad Canadian roots band (Sirus provides vocals on "Thunder" and "Trapped"), Sirus teamed up again with Nick Holder for various tracks and also to launch his own Escape Records label.

The debut album, "On The Edge Of A Dream" from Sirus is a pleasure to listen to, both for the DJ and the collector alike, and its hard driving club tracks, dreamy strings and cool lounge grooves shows Sirus' broad musical tastes while highlighting his musicianship. The album includes the benchmark track 'An Eye For An Eye' which has become an anthemic track for Danny Tenaglia at his Vinyl club nights in New York.
